Lessons
I like to keep lessons laid back, but tailored to the direction the student chooses, whether that be a new style, technique or a favourite song with a funky rhythm.
I also teach the Trinity College London Grades (more info below), as they were the grades I was put through by my original tutor and they served me very well in making progress on the kit.
More recently I’ve began to put more emphasis on posture and movement mechanics when playing and teaching, as this is an area that is often neglected by a lot of teachers but can have an immense impact on not only your playing and flow, but your body and longevity. It’s of course up to you if this element of playing interests you at all and if you’d want to explore it further.

The Teaching Room
I teach mostly from my home studio/teaching room, but do travel out to some lessons too. The advantage of teaching in the studio is having the two kits set up next to each other, so it’s very easy to demonstrate and play pieces without the disruption of getting on and off the same kit.
Learning With The Grades
I enjoy teaching the Trinity College London Grades and have entered many students into exams with this syllabus, achieving some great marks with a 100% pass rate. These were the grade books that I used and achieved Grade 8 with, so I have a good knowledge of how the exams work and what is involved. Also the Trinity College Grades have a nice variety of styles and pieces to choose from at each level, and they advance at a good rate so that the next grade is a challenge but not too much of a step up.
I don’t however push any students to learn the grades, although a lot of people use them to give their learning a more solid structure, it’s completely up to you where we take our lessons!
